A large retrospective of Donald Judd’s work inspired the Berlin based art magazine MONOPOL to commission a group of artists to create works in response to his. RO/LU recreates one of his furniture pieces in clear acrylic and then fills it with soil.
Also commissioned for the magazine’s Judd feature were Konstantin Grcic, Hella Jongerius, Clemens Weisshar, Ayzit Bostan, and Jerszy Seymour.
What we loved most was running their German into the translator:
“RO/LU come from New York, where their objects are exhibited in the context of art and design and use. They wrote us, “Gosh we had a lot of fun doing this!” until they built a stool made of plexiglass Judd after they fills it with earth so that he is more present. Then they discovered Judd + Nature equals Dan Graham!”
