This is one of our favorite recent projects. James and Betsy are a young South Minneapolis family that was working with one of our favorite architecture firms, CITYDESKSTUDIO, on a major renovation. We definitely recommend checking out the architect's documentation for some stunning pics of the interior (here).

The clients are both artists (James is an amazing photographer) and they have adorable young children. We wanted to design something comfortable for the family that meets the rich level of the home's architecture and, in certain areas, we created very literal relationships between the house and the land. Strong elements, like the large window boxes and the long spanning ipe wood platform and steps, were furnished with design echoes that we hope provide a fine reflection of the architecture's strong geometry.

The project was a great success and will be featured on the American Institute of Architects home tour on Saturday and Sunday September 19th and 20th 2009. More info here. We will be on hand to talk about the work and answer questions along with CITYDESKSTUDIO, so definitely come by and say hi.
