James and Betsy had considered building a new home but, they loved the location of their house, so they decided to extensively remodel. They worked with CITYDESKSTUDIO architects who we have partnered with frequently. The homes interior was brightened through skylights and opened using structural glass.

We created a super simple logic on the site. Large ipe steps that work as seating connect to a large patio area made from concrete squares with spans of Dresser trap gravel between. A simple agrarian style fence that matches cedar window coverings.

James is a photographer and it’s been fun over the years seeing his photos of the family hanging out in the space.
