Kyle is a software entrepreneur and choral composer and Katie is a painter. They worked with architect John Gavin Dwyer to create what they envisioned as the perfect home. The house is located on a small bluff that overlooks a small lake, a situation made more dramatic by a large cantilevered deck.

RO/LU used the blackened cedar that covers the house to clad the retaining walls which brought the architecture out into the site in a very literal fashion. Geometric formations of concrete with channels of epoxied trap gravel create permeable paths and patio areas. And trees create privacy year around.

This project has received several awards including a designation from the AIA.
